Increased Fines for Motorists

10th January, 2012, in Driving Law.

"...an additional cost of up to £120 on top of any fines and costs"

From today, for all motoring offences which are heard in court, the MOJ has increased the victim surcharge which will now be an additional cost of up to £120 on top of any fines and costs. (Read the reasoning from the MOJ here and see our explanation of speeding fines here.) The money will only ever be used for victims of violent crime. Is it right to lump motorists in with other offenders and make them pay the same? You might think not.
