(5) You have lived apart for more than 5 years

Living apart for more than 5 years is usually enough to get a divorce, even if your husband or wife disagrees with the divorce.

You are allowed periods of reconciliation, which can be up to 6 months in total during that period, either in one go or up to 6 months in separate periods. That time, however, will not count towards the overall 5 years.

It is difficult for your husband or wife to oppose this ground, other than by arguing that the time period that you rely upon is not correct.
