Example

Your fixed fee legal costs are £2000 and you decide to finance them over 12 months. You choose to pay a 10% deposit. That would mean you pay a £200 deposit then a balance of £1800. That balance of £1800 is paid in twelve equal instalments spread over 12 months. Each monthly payment would be £150. At 0% interest therefore, the total payable would be the same as your original cost namely £2000.

Will I be eligible?

Applying for an instalment plan is similar to applying for any new credit product. The details you provide are checked against public registers, such as credit-rating agencies. To increase the chances of acceptance, ideally, you will have a good credit history (no late payments, CCJ's, etc). The application process will also look at affordability and you must be able to pay the deposit with a debit or credit card. You must also meet the following minimum criteria: be 18 years old, or older; UK resident, with 3 years’ address history; no outstanding county court judgments; employed for more than 16 hours a week (if not retired).

Is this no-win no-fee?

No! We say “No-win no-fee: NO WAY!”Here’s why. Legal costs are just that and we don’t think with fixed fees they should be linked to the damages you might receive. With access to monthly finance, why should you pay typically a quarter of your case damages to someone else and sign away your claim for them to control?
